Emmanuel D. Akpan, J.D., Ph.D. founded the Law Offices of Emmanuel D. Akpan, J.D, Ph.D. in 1998, as full-service law firm with the primary practices areas of immigration, personal injury, and family law. Dr. Akpan has been practicing law for more than 28 years.
Dr. Akpan began his legal education at Howard University in 1977, while he was pursing his Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy at Georgetown University. In 1980, he graduated from both prestigious universities within one month of each other. Afterwards, Dr. Akpan clerked for the Honorable Shellie F. Bowers at the Superior Court for the District of Columbia. In 1981, he became Deputy Director in the Office of Campaign Finance, Board of Elections and Ethics for the District of Columbia. In 1982, he and his law partner began the law firm of Baird & Akpan.
Dr. Akpan has been vigorously defending immigration clients for more than two decades. He has handled very complex immigration matters and received successful results for his clients. He has represented clients before Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, United States District Courts and Courts of Appeals. Because of his years of experience, he works efficiently and provides effective strategies in cases against the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service.
In addition, Dr. Akpan is a seasoned trial lawyer and litigator. He has had several successful jury trials and appeals for many matters, including personal injury, family law, and real estate matters.
